ABOUT THE
FILM CHALLENGE
Every actor dreams of stepping onto a professional set.
The reality is that film is collaborative. Actors work alongside writers, directors, producers, cinematographers, editors and crew to bring stories to life.
The BOPAS × Rātā Studios Film Challenge was created to give students the opportunity to experience that process first-hand.
Students were challenged to create, perform and collaborate in a supportive environment while developing the skills needed to succeed in the screen industry.
This project celebrates courage, creativity, teamwork and growth.
Because the goal isn’t simply to create great films.
It’s to become better storytellers.

STUDENT-CREATED FILMS
Students create an original short film from concept to completion.
This includes:
- Story development
- Script writing
- Casting
- Directing
- Filming
- Editing
- Producing
Every decision belongs to the students.
ACTING SHOWCASES
These projects focus solely on performance.
Students work on character, emotional truth and screen acting while experienced crew capture the scene professionally.
The goal is simple:
To create authentic, compelling performances for screen.

Based in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty Actors Studio (BOPAS) provides professional screen acting training for children, teenagers and adults.
Our focus is preparing actors for the realities of the screen industry through practical training, industry workshops, audition preparation and on-camera experience.
We believe growth comes through challenge, creativity and community.
